Greece has been fighting a wildfire near Thessaloniki since Saturday night, July 4.
The wildfire destroyed two industrial plants and forced the evacuation of three villages and a care facility, according to Greek media outlet Kathimerini.
A man believed to have started the fire was first taken into custody and then arrested.
Tests revealed that he was drunk.
It was reported that the fire had been brought under control as of Sunday, with the help of 160 firefighters, more than 50 fire trucks sent to the area, and countless volunteers who went to help.
Authorities cited by the Greek media outlet said that black smoke may continue to be seen rising above the city due to a recycling plant that was destroyed in the fire and a textile factory that has been rendered unusable.
The mayor of Neapoli-Sykies, Simos Daniilidis, warned the public about the toxic smoke and urged them to follow the instructions issued by the authorities.
While there was no serious damage in June, Greece has experienced another fire that broke out in recent days, in which a father and his 12-year-old son lost their lives. High temperatures, dry air, and wind are providing the conditions for forest fires.
