President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated Saturday that a window of opportunity has opened for lasting peace in the region after Hamas responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Erdogan said Türkiye is making intensive efforts to stop the genocide that has been ongoing in Gaza for two years, stating, "We have mobilized our resources in all areas, from humanitarian aid to diplomatic contacts. Our aim is to bring our Gazan brothers to peace, tranquility and security as soon as possible."

Erdogan made the remarks at the Sultanbeyli Mass Opening and Groundbreaking Ceremony held in the city square, where he greeted participants and citizens.

Erdogan said he wanted to address an issue closely followed by the entire Islamic world and humanity, continuing his words as follows: "We are making intensive efforts to stop the genocide that has been ongoing in Gaza for two years. We have mobilized our resources in all areas, from humanitarian aid to diplomatic contacts. Our aim is to bring our Gazan brothers to peace, tranquility and security as soon as possible."

"Last week, we made contacts in this direction both in New York and Washington. We drew attention to the humanitarian disaster. We became the voice of the oppressed. At the United Nations, we brought the suffering of Gazan children to the world's agenda with photographs," he added.

"We also discussed this issue in detail with American President Mr. Trump. We evaluated the steps that need to be taken for peace," the Turkish president noted.

Window of opportunity for lasting regional peace

Erdogan said he then sent the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief to Qatar and the foreign minister to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, stating, "The most important agenda of our phone call with Mr. Trump last night was again Gaza. It was to bring peace and stability to Gaza."

"We welcome Hamas' response to Mr. Trump's peace plan. Hamas has shown that it is ready for peace, as it has done many times before. Thus, a window of opportunity has opened for lasting peace in our region. Israel's immediate halt to its attacks is very important in this regard," he added.

President Erdogan drew attention to the need not to allow the budding hopes for peace to fade, emphasizing that if all parties act with a sense of responsibility, it is possible to stop the bloodshed and establish peace.

President Erdogan expressed the following: "As Türkiye, we will continue to do whatever is necessary so that not one more innocent person dies and the faces of Gazan children smile."

"We are also bringing the hope travelers of the Global Sumud Flotilla to our country. I think that in one hour, not only those from Türkiye but also some Sumud Flotilla passengers from Malaysia and different countries will take their places in the convoy arriving at Istanbul Airport," he added.

"From here, we convey our solidarity messages to the oppressed people of Gaza and emphasize once again that Türkiye will always be by their side," Erdogan concluded.
