Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis said Monday that Saudi Arabian forces targeted Sanaa International Airport in the capital.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said Saudi forces carried out an airstrike on the airport, according to a statement. Saree claimed the strike had ended the process of de-escalation in the region.
He said the attack would not go unanswered and claimed that Saudi Arabia must bear the consequences.
Yemeni Defense Minister Taher al-Uqaili recently said Iranian aircraft had violated the country's airspace and that Yemen would respond militarily to such violations.
Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani also said the Houthis had detained an aircraft belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross at Sanaa Airport.
Iryani said the Houthis prevented the aircraft from leaving the airport and detained the pilot and co-pilot.
The Iran-backed Houthis have controlled Sanaa and parts of Yemen since September 2014.
The Saudi-led coalition has provided military support to Yemen's internationally recognized government, based in Aden, since March 2015.
