The Coastal Rowing Endurance and Beach Sprint Türkiye Championship, organized by the Türkiye Rowing Federation in Samsun, is continuing on its second day. The event, held at the Cobanli Pier area in the Atakum district, has drawn 537 athletes from 42 clubs.
On the championship's second day, waves caused by strong winds created difficult conditions for the athletes. Ugur Kilic, secretary general of the Türkiye Rowing Federation, stated that despite the waves, the competitions were continuing without problems.
He said yesterday's weather conditions had been rough, but today's were calmer by comparison. "So far there haven't been any issues on our end, so we're continuing," adding that unless something unexpected came up, the races would be completed through to the end.
Noting that Türkiye's best coastal rowing teams are taking part in the championship, Kilic said the weather had had a negative impact the day before, but the clubs remained pleased, since this was simply the nature of coastal rowing.
Kilic pointed out that Türkiye became European champion in coastal rowing last year and is somewhat ahead of other countries in the sport globally.
"We've grown very fond of Samsun," he said, adding that he hoped the races would continue in what he called "the city of sport." He also said he expected to work on projects with the city's metropolitan mayor, including a facility-selection project that, if realized, would make Samsun the center of coastal rowing.
The Coastal Rowing Endurance and Beach Sprint Türkiye Championship will conclude on August 16 with a medal ceremony.
