Tugberk Tanrivermis, a rising Turkish football manager, has taken European football by storm after leading Austria's second-tier side St. Polten from the relegation zone to the top four.

Despite the team's remarkable turnaround, the 35-year-old is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Tanrivermis began his coaching career at Galatasaray’s youth academy, later serving as an assistant coach with the senior team. He also had stints managing AS Roma’s U18 team and Spezia’s U19 side in Italy. In October, he took charge of the Austrian 2. Liga club St. Polten.

When he was appointed, St. Polten sat 12th in the league with just nine points after nine rounds. Under his leadership, the club experienced a dramatic resurgence.

19 Matches, 40 Points

During his tenure, Tanrivermis guided St. Polten through 19 matches, collecting 40 points with 12 wins and four draws. By matchday 28, the team had climbed to 4th place with a total of 49 points.

Under Tanrivermis, St. Polten also became the league’s most prolific attacking side, scoring 43 goals in that 19-match span. The team registered the second-highest point total in the league during his time in charge.

Departure due to budget cuts

Despite the on-field success, Tanrivermis has opted to part ways with the club at the end of the season. After recent ownership changes at St. Polten, the club informed him of a significant reduction in the budget for next season, including no allocation for transfers and the departure of key players. In light of these constraints, the Turkish coach decided to move on.

In 2023, Tugberk Tanrivermis was named “Best Young Coach of the Year” at the prestigious Maurizio Maestrelli Awards in Italy, recognizing his achievements with Roma’s U18 team.
