Fenerbahce has reached an agreement to sign Romelu Lukaku from Napoli, with the Belgian striker expected to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday evening, according to Turkish broadcaster Haberturk.
The move comes after Fenerbahce turned to the transfer market to address its options at center forward following an injury to Vedat Muriqi, the club's summer signing. The Istanbul club had been searching for a forward to strengthen its rotation in that position before settling on Lukaku.
Fenerbahce is set to pay Napoli a transfer fee of 6 million euros plus 2 million euros in add-ons for the 33-year-old forward, whose contract with the Serie A club had made him available for a move. The Turkish club and Lukaku have agreed to personal terms worth an annual salary of 10 million euros.
Italian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Fenerbahce and Lukaku have agreed to a one-year contract with an option for a second season.
According to Tavolieri, Lukaku is scheduled to depart Belgium at 7 p.m. local time on a private jet and is expected to land in Istanbul later Wednesday evening.
Lukaku's move to Fenerbahce follows a difficult campaign at Napoli, where injuries limited him to just seven appearances across all competitions last season, during which he scored one goal.
The Belgian forward, who has previously played for clubs including Chelsea and Inter Milan in a career spent largely in Italy and England, would add experience to a Fenerbahce squad looking to bolster its attacking options after Muriqi's injury.
