According to Turkish media outlet HT Spor, Besiktas will assess potential opportunities in the goalkeeper market during the winter transfer window, a development that could lead to a possible separation from Mert Gunok.
The club has already begun preparations for the mid-season transfer period. In line with head coach Sergen Yalcin’s report, Besiktas has identified left-back, centre-back and midfield as priority positions. However, the report states that the club could also move for a goalkeeper if suitable options emerge.
Mert Gunok, whose performances have drawn criticism, lost his place in the starting lineup to Ersin Destanoglu in October. Ongoing defensive issues have also contributed to Besiktas’ struggles to keep clean sheets this season, bringing increased attention to the goalkeeping position.
The report also states that Super Lig side Samsunspor is closely monitoring Mert Gunok’s situation. The experienced goalkeeper could be allowed to leave if Besiktas proceeds with a goalkeeper signing during the winter transfer window, although there has been no concrete development despite ongoing speculation about a potential move.
