Fenerbahce hosts Besiktas this weekend in one of Turkish football’s fiercest rivalries. The highly anticipated Week 28 Trendyol Super Lig derby kicks off at 8 p.m. local time at Chobani Stadium, with Yasin Kol refereeing.

Title race implications

Fenerbahce head into the match sitting four points behind league leaders Galatasaray, with a game in hand. Having recorded 17 wins, nine draws, and just one loss in 27 matches, the home side is determined to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.

Besiktas, meanwhile, are fourth with 52 points and see this derby as an opportunity to close the gap on the leading pack. A win away from home would significantly boost their chances of climbing higher in the standings.

Returns boost Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have only one confirmed absentee, Edson Alvarez, who remains sidelined after surgery. However, the return of key players such as Milan Skriniar, Nelson Semedo, and Caglar Soyuncu provides a major boost.

Six players, including Semedo, Kerem Akturkoglu and Matteo Guendouzi are one yellow card away from suspension, adding another layer of tension to the match.

Under head coach Domenico Tedesco, Fenerbahce have shown solid derby form this season, collecting two wins, one draw and one loss across competitions.

Besiktas arrive in strong form

Besiktas have no injury concerns ahead of the derby. Players like Emirhan Topcu and El Bilal Toure are back in contention, giving coach Sergen Yalcin a full squad to choose from.

Captain Orkun Kokcu has been in standout form, scoring six league goals this season and finding the net in consecutive matches leading up to the derby.

The Black Eagles are also enjoying a strong run, winning their last two league games and five of their previous six. Defensively, they have been particularly impressive, conceding just two goals in their last five matches.
