Istanbul club Fenerbahce is reportedly preparing to finalize the transfer of Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sorloth for a €35 million ($41.2 million) fee, as the Norwegian forward expresses willingness to return to Türkiye’s Super Lig for a second stint.
The Yellow Canaries are said to have reached a preliminary understanding with the 30-year-old striker, and the transfer now depends on a deal with the Spanish club, according to Türkiye daily.
Although Sorloth initially prioritized opportunities in Europe’s top five leagues, sources suggest he has been swayed by Fenerbahce’s interest and is now prepared to accept a reported €11 million annual salary to join the club.
While Fenerbahce initially aimed to structure the transfer around Sorloth’s market valuation of €20 million, Atletico Madrid has significantly raised the asking price. The Spanish side, under head coach Diego Simeone, has shown reluctance to release the player mid-season and has set the transfer fee at €35 million, reflecting strong interest from several European clubs.
Despite the inflated valuation, Fenerbahce has reportedly remained active in negotiations and is optimistic about reaching a deal in the same price range.
Transfer talks briefly lost momentum following the temporary detention of Fenerbahce head Sadettin Saran as part of a probe. However, the club has since resumed efforts to complete the signing, and Ertan Torunogullari, who oversees the club’s football operations, is expected to travel to Spain in the coming days to finalize the deal, the report suggested.
Should the deal be completed, the move would be the Norwegian striker’s second time in Türkiye, following his standout performance with Trabzonspor during the 2019–2020 season, when he scored 24 goals in the Super Lig.
Sorloth joined the Madrid side during the summer 2024 transfer window in a €32 million deal from fellow Spanish club Villarreal. Despite playing 53 matches and recording 24 goals and two assists last season, his role has diminished in the 2025–2026 campaign, where he has made 22 appearances, started 10 of them, scored five goals, and provided one assist.
