Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce has reportedly opened talks to sign Feyenoord's midfielder Quinten Timber, whose contract with the Dutch club is due to expire at the end of the season, according to the Turkish media.
According to Türkiye daily, club officials have contacted the 24-year-old Netherlands international and his representatives to discuss initial terms, while also reaching out to Feyenoord regarding a potential transfer.
Feyenoord has been trying to renew Timber’s contract for roughly a year but has not made progress. The club is said to have attempted to strengthen its position by removing his captaincy duties, though this step did not lead to a breakthrough.
Fenerbahce’s plans have become more challenging as Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have also entered the race. Both German clubs are monitoring Timber, who scored against Fenerbahce earlier in the season. Fenerbahce aims to act quickly and convince Feyenoord to accept a fee for a player who will otherwise be free to leave in the summer, the report suggested.
Timber’s market valuation stands at around €30 million ($34.86 million), but Feyenoord may consider a lower figure to avoid losing him without compensation.
Timber also played against Fenerbahce in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match at the start of the season and scored in the first leg of the tie. He has made 14 appearances so far this season, recording two goals and one assist.
Fenerbahce is preparing for a winter transfer window in which several departures may be needed to create room within the club’s spending limits. The list of potential exits includes players who have been excluded from the squad as well as others whose futures remain uncertain. The club expects to rely on sales to open up financial capacity for incoming transfers.
One player not expected to leave is midfielder Ismail, who is being monitored by Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Brighton. The club does not plan to approve a transfer for him.
Meanwhile, Colombian striker Jhon Duran—who joined the Istanbul side on loan from Saudi club Al-Nassr and holds a €70 million ($81.34 million) transfer value—skipped the latest Colombia national team camp to work on his fitness in Istanbul and is now being prepared for a starting role. Head coach Domenico Tedesco plans to include him in the first eleven for the upcoming league match and is working with him individually to speed up his readiness.
