A new era begins at Fenerbahce following the re-election of Aziz Yildirim as club president. Returning to the helm after an eight-year absence, Yildirim’s comeback has ignited the transfer market, fueled by reports linking Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah to a potential move to the Turkish giants.
Supporters of the Istanbul club are now watching closely to see whether the new administration will make a formal move for the Egyptian star, after Ertan Torunogullari, a board member of Fenerbahce, said earlier talks with Salah had created a basis for a possible deal.
Torunogullari, who served as the football executive in Sadettin Saran's election team, said negotiations had previously been held with Salah, who recently parted ways with Liverpool.
According to Torunogullari, the talks were positive, and Salah was open to the idea of moving to Türkiye.
He said they had built up a basis for an agreement on several issues, including salary, adding: "If the new administration wants such a move, I believe Salah will wear the Fenerbahce shirt. We would gladly work with the new management on the talks."
The comments came just as Aziz Yildirim officially began his new term at Fenerbahce, one of Türkiye's biggest football clubs, after winning the extraordinary general assembly, a special election meeting held by the club.
Yildirim had already left the door open to a possible major transfer during the election process. Asked about Salah and the cost of such a move, he said the player was reportedly asking for a salary of €20 million.
Yildirim added that the figure would rise to €30 million with tax, and that a three-year contract could reach €90 million in total. "If that is our urgent need, we will sign him. Our Football Committee will decide on these matters," he said.
Torunogullari's remarks have now placed the focus on whether Yildirim's new administration will follow up on the earlier contact.
For now, no official move has been announced, but the possibility of Salah wearing the yellow-and-navy shirt has become one of the first major transfer questions of Yildirim's new presidency.
