Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2025–26 season, bringing an end to a nine-year tenure at Anfield. The 33-year-old Egyptian confirmed his departure in a video message expressing gratitude to the club, teammates, and supporters.
In the video, Salah described Liverpool as more than a football club, calling it a passion, a history, and a spirit. “Leaving is never easy,” he said. “This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 and has since made 435 appearances, scoring 255 goals, making him the club’s third-highest scorer behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
During his time at Liverpool, he has played a key role in securing major honours, including two Premier League titles (2019/20 and 2024/25), the 2019 UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The forward has also claimed four Premier League Golden Boots, cementing his status as one of the club’s most prolific scorers.
Salah’s departure follows a turbulent period at the club, including a reported disagreement with manager Arne Slot and injuries that limited his playing time this season. The forward was benched for three consecutive Premier League matches last December, sparking speculation about his future.
Liverpool and Salah have agreed that he will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. His agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, confirmed that no decisions have been made regarding Salah’s next destination, leaving his future open to speculation from European and international clubs alike.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has suggested that Salah will aim to finish his Anfield career with a bang, potentially helping the club secure a Champions League title in Budapest this season.
