Maja Chwalinska became the first qualifier in the Open Era to reach the French Open women's singles final on Thursday after defeating Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-4 in the semifinals.

The Polish world No. 114 will face Russia's Mirra Andreeva in Saturday's title match at Roland Garros.

The Pole's route to the final has included victories over Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, 23rd seed Elise Mertens, former world No. 3 Maria Sakkari, Diane Parry and 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya.

Following a medical timeout taken by Shnaider at 4-3, Chwalinska won the final three games to seal victory in two hours and 10 minutes.

Andreeva reaches first major final

Earlier, Mirra Andreeva stormed into her first Grand Slam final with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk.

The 19-year-old Russian required just 76 minutes to avenge her defeat to Kostyuk in the Madrid Open final earlier this season and book her place in Saturday's championship match.

Andreeva has now recorded a tour-leading 35 victories in 2026 and will enter the final as one of the most in-form players on the WTA Tour.
