Türkiye's Ahmet Kaplan moved into the French Open final in quad wheelchair singles, becoming the first Turkish athlete to reach a Grand Slam singles final in wheelchair tennis.
The 24-year-old para tennis player reached the final at Roland Garros after beating top seed Sam Schroder of the Netherlands in the semifinals in Paris.
Kaplan, ranked No. 5 in the world, faced Schroder in the quad wheelchair singles semifinal at the French Open, the second Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Schroder, who has won seven Grand Slam titles at major tournaments, entered the match as the No. 1 seed. Kaplan came through a long three-set contest, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 after 2 hours and 24 minutes.
The result gave Kaplan the first Grand Slam singles final of his career and marked a major milestone for Turkish wheelchair tennis.
Kaplan will face another Dutch player, No. 2 seed Niels Vink, in the final.
Vink has won eight Grand Slam titles, including two at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023. The final is scheduled to be played on Saturday, June 6.
