The highly anticipated Flatwater Canoe Türkiye Cup races have officially kicked off at the Sarisungur Reservoir in Eskisehir, marking a major milestone in the Turkish Canoe Federation’s 2026 athletic calendar.
Hosted by the Eskisehir Metropolitan Municipality, the prestigious tournament opened with intense qualifying rounds as elite athletes took to the water to battle for positions in both the 1,000-meter and 500-meter sprint categories.
The competitive schedule accelerates immediately following the opening heats, moving directly into the high-stakes 500-meter semifinals and finals.
Structured to test the speed, endurance, and technical precision of the nation's top paddlers across distinct distances, the multi-day regatta builds toward a demanding second half. The 1,000-meter semifinals and finals are scheduled for Thursday, July 9, followed by the tournament's peak intensity on Friday, July 10, when the 200-meter heats, semifinals, and final rounds take place in rapid succession.
The event will officially conclude late Friday afternoon with a formal podium ceremony honoring the top individual medalists and the highest-ranking championship clubs.
Eskisehir’s Sarisungur Reservoir has grown into the definitive hub for this championship, having successfully hosted the Flatwater Canoe Türkiye Cup in previous years, including the highly competitive June 2025 tournament.
The artificial reservoir's purpose-built design provides optimal lane conditions and calm waters, which originally prompted national athletic coordinators to consolidate major flatwater events here.
Over successive seasons, the facility has welcomed hundreds of elite athletes from dozens of regional clubs nationwide, turning the city into the traditional capital of Turkish paddle sports.
