Galatasaray has shifted its full focus to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the club attempts to regain momentum in the Turkish Super Lig, Türkiye’s top-tier football competition. According to a report by Türkiye daily’s Ali Naci Kucuk, the Istanbul side has struggled across league, cup, and European matches in his absence, prompting urgent efforts to accelerate his return.

After dropping five points over the past three weeks, including a loss to Trabzonspor and a draw with Kocaelispor, Galatasaray has seen its advantage in the standings slip. The team is now working to avoid further setbacks by bringing Osimhen back ahead of schedule.

Buruk urges sacrifice as pressure builds

Coach Okan Buruk has directly appealed to the striker, acknowledging that he may not be fully recovered but stressing his importance during the final stretch of the season. In his message, Buruk said, “I know you are not fully fit, but we need you. Do not leave us alone in these critical weeks.”

The club’s medical team has stepped up its efforts to prepare Osimhen for an earlier return, potentially even before the high-profile Fenerbahce derby. The striker, who recently resumed light training, is now expected to consider taking a risk by returning as early as the upcoming Genclerbirligi match.

Attacking struggles deepen without key striker

Galatasaray’s difficulties without Osimhen have become increasingly clear, as the team has failed to maintain consistency across competitions. His absence has exposed gaps in the attacking line, particularly in crucial matches.

Mauro Icardi, previously the team’s leading scorer, has not managed to compensate for the loss. The Argentine forward was benched in the last two matches following underwhelming performances. In the Kocaelispor game, he came on late, produced one off-target shot, and struggled to make an impact in limited possession.

Final five matches seen as defining stretch

With five matches remaining, Galatasaray views the coming weeks as decisive in determining the outcome of its title campaign. The urgency surrounding Osimhen’s return reflects the club’s broader concern over maintaining competitiveness in a tight race.

Despite recent setbacks, Buruk has sought to keep morale steady. Speaking to his players at the Kemerburgaz training ground, he emphasized that the situation remains within their control, stating, “We have lost points, but not the title.”

Club president Dursun Ozbek is also expected to increase his presence around the team, offering direct support and reinforcing confidence as the season approaches its conclusion.
