Türkiye's reigning champion Galatasaray is reportedly pursuing Austrian center back David Alaba from Real Madrid, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, Spanish media reported.
The 33-year-old defender, who has been struggling with recurring injuries in recent seasons, is now evaluating offers to continue his career abroad, with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye emerging as the primary destinations under consideration, according to a report by DefensaCentral.
The Istanbul side is reportedly making a serious attempt to sign Alaba at the end of the season, racing with Saudi Arabian teams that have extended lucrative offers to the player, the report suggested. Despite the financial appeal of a move to the Gulf, Alaba is said to be leaning toward Galatasaray, attracted by the opportunity to play in European competitions.
The Turkish club is currently competing in the UEFA Champions League, which could offer Alaba a platform to return to high-level football after an extended absence from regular play.
Alaba’s time at Real Madrid has recently been overshadowed by injuries. After sustaining a serious injury that sidelined him for over a year, the Austrian star has struggled to regain form and consistency. This season, he has managed only 145 minutes on the field across domestic and European competitions, and he has recently been sidelined by another injury, missing seven matches.
Earlier reports in Turkish media suggested that Galatasaray is also preparing to approach another Real Madrid center back, German international Antonio Rüdiger, who is currently dealing with serious injuries. The defender is reportedly open to offers, and Galatasaray is expected to submit a formal bid in the coming weeks, aiming to finalize the transfer during the January window.
The 32-year-old defender’s contract also expires at the end of the season, with his estimated transfer value standing at €12 million ($14.1 million).
