Galatasaray defeated English side Liverpool 1-0 in the second week of the UEFA Champions League at RAMS Park on Tuesday, with Victor Osimhen converting a 16th-minute penalty for the game's only goal.
The Turkish champions' victory over the Premier League giants marks a significant result in their European campaign, with Osimhen's early penalty proving enough to secure all three points in front of a packed home crowd.
The decisive moment came in the 16th minute when Osimhen stepped up to convert from the penalty spot, giving goalkeeper Alisson no chance.
Liverpool pressed for an equalizer throughout the match, with substitute goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir making crucial saves. In the 49th minute, Cakir denied Ekitike's backheel attempt from close range after Frimpong's cross from the right wing. Five minutes later, Osimhen nearly doubled the lead after stealing the ball from Gravenberch in midfield, but Alisson made the save.
The visitors' best chance came in the 63rd minute when Isak, played through by Wirtz, forced another save from Ugurcan. Mac Allister came close in stoppage time, his shot going just wide after a Szoboszlai corner.
Galatasaray nearly sealed the victory in the 95th minute when Torreira's shot from the edge of the box struck the post after Liverpool failed to clear Lemina's cross.
