Hull City, owned by Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali, will now prepare for a revised Championship playoff final against Middlesbrough following Southampton’s disqualification.

The EFL confirmed that an Independent Disciplinary Commission found Southampton in breach of multiple regulations relating to the unauthorized recording and observation of opposition training sessions. The club admitted to the violations during the investigation.

As a result of the ruling, Southampton have been expelled from the Championship play-offs and will also receive a four-point deduction in the 2026/27 Championship season.

Middlesbrough, who were eliminated by Southampton in the semi-final stage, have been reinstated and will now compete in the final.

The Championship play-off final is scheduled to take place on 23 May at Wembley Stadium.
