Galatasaray is moving ahead with its summer transfer planning while also weighing the future of Mauro Icardi, amid reports of renewed interest from his home country. The Istanbul-based club is preparing a new contract proposal for the Argentine striker that would involve both a shorter commitment and a significant salary reduction, according to reporting from Nefes daily in Türkiye.
Information cited by Nefes daily suggests that Galatasaray intends to offer Icardi a new 1+1-year contract, a common football structure meaning one guaranteed season with an option for an additional year. As part of the proposal, the club is expected to ask the forward to lower his current annual salary, reportedly close to €10 million (over $11.7 million), to a range of around €5 million to €6 million.
Club sources quoted indirectly in the report indicate that the management sees this adjustment as part of a broader financial restructuring, while still keeping Icardi within the squad if an agreement can be reached.
At the same time, media outlets in Argentina have claimed that Icardi has been offered to River Plate, one of the country’s most prominent clubs. These reports connect the potential move to personal reasons, stating that Icardi’s partner, actress and singer China Suarez, wants to return to Argentina, which has prompted discussions.
Argentine media have further suggested that the player would be willing to play for substantially less than his earnings in Türkiye, an assertion that adds weight to speculation about a possible return home.
While Galatasaray continues its transfer work, Icardi’s situation remains unresolved, with contract talks on one side and interest from Argentina on the other. For now, all developments are based on media reports, and no official decision has been announced by either the club or the player.
