The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will be withdrawn from the Spain national team squad for the upcoming matches against Türkiye and Georgia due to a medical issue.
According to an official statement from the RFEF, Yamal underwent an invasive radio-frequency procedure on the pubic region on the morning of Monday, November 10, the same day the national team’s official camp commenced.
The federation noted that the procedure was carried out without prior notification to the national team medical staff. Details of the treatment, including a recommended 7–10 day rest period, were only received later in the evening.
“Upon learning of the procedure, the RFEF Medical Services expressed their surprise and concern,” the statement read. “The player’s health, safety, and well-being are our highest priorities. Consequently, we have decided to withdraw him from the current squad.”
This weekend, Türkiye will face Spain in a 2026 World Cup qualifying group stage match. The encounter is of critical importance for both teams, as securing points could provide a significant advantage in the race for direct qualification.
The match will be held at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville on Tuesday, November 18.
Spain leads the group with four wins in four matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding none, giving them 12 points. Türkiye follows in second place with three wins and one loss, scoring 13 goals and conceding 10, for a total of 9 points.
Georgia occupies third place with one win and three losses, scoring 6 goals and conceding 9, totaling 3 points.
Bulgaria is at the bottom, having lost all four matches, scoring just 1 goal and conceding 16, with 0 points.
