Fenerbahçe presidential candidate Hakan Safi has submitted an official transfer offer to secure Polish striker Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer. The high-profile pursuit serves as a major move ahead of the club's upcoming election.

According to Turkish media reports, Safi made a formal approach for Lewandowski, who is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires, with talks over a potential move reportedly ongoing.

Lewandowski sits atop wishlist

Lewandowski, widely regarded as one of the leading goal scorers of his generation, featured in 46 matches for Barcelona during the most recent campaign. The 37-year-old striker scored 19 goals and provided four assists across all competitions. The veteran forward is currently valued at €8 million and earns €20.8 million ($24.2 million) at the Catalan club.

The Polish striker is expected to decide on his future in the coming days and is seeking a two-year contract, Turkish sports journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu said.

Safi previously hinted at an ambitious transfer campaign, saying the club had already reached agreements with two national team players and would announce them soon. "I said I would bring in two world stars, but that number could even be three," he added.

Transfer battle heats up

Additional names linked to Safi's reported transfer plans include Mason Greenwood, Serhou Guirassy, and Turkish international center back Merih Demiral.

Earlier Turkish media reports suggested that contact had already been established with Marseille regarding a potential move for Greenwood, with the French club reportedly valuing the English forward at around €50 million amid interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Guirassy, meanwhile, has also emerged as a potential candidate for rival presidential candidate Aziz Yildirim, whose reported shortlist includes former Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.

The transfer speculation comes ahead of Fenerbahce's extraordinary presidential election on June 6-7, where both Safi and Yildirim have put forward ambitious recruitment projects in an effort to secure support from club members.
