French club Marseille confirmed that Fenerbahce is among the sides pursuing English winger Mason Greenwood in a potential €50 million ($58.2 million) move ahead of the presidential elections in June, Turkish media reported.
One of the presidential candidates has already entered serious talks with both Marseille and Greenwood’s representatives over a possible transfer, the report suggested.
A senior Marseille official confirmed that discussions involving Fenerbahce are ongoing, while also noting strong interest from other countries.
"Big clubs from Italy and Saudi Arabia are interested as well. Fenerbahce is one of them. There are negotiations," the official told Fanatik. Marseille is reportedly asking for around €50 million to part ways with the 23-year-old forward.
Greenwood emerged as one of Marseille’s standout performers last season, featuring in 45 matches across all competitions. The English attacker scored 26 goals and added 11 assists, directly contributing to 37 goals during the campaign.
Meanwhile, Fenerbahce is preparing to hold its extraordinary congress on June 6-7, and transfer promises have become a central part of the race between presidential candidates Hakan Safi and Aziz Yildirim.
Both sides have stepped up their campaigns and pledges ahead of the election, with much of the focus remaining on promises that could end the club’s 12-year league title drought, the longest in Fenerbahce’s history.
Another big names linked with Fenerbahce include Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, who left Liverpool on a free transfer, and Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth.
