Marseille appoints 70-year-old Jean-Louis Gasset as new head coach, replacing Gennaro Gattuso after recent defeat

Marseille has offered Jean-Louis Gasset a short-term contract to become their new head coach, the sports news outlet FootMercato reported Tuesday.

The 70-year-old Frenchman replaces Gennaro Gattuso, who was sacked after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Brest.

Gasset is a highly experienced coach who has previously managed Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, and Bordeaux.

He is known for getting the best out of his players, and his teams are usually well-organized and disciplined. Gasset will be tasked with turning around Marseille’s fortunes.

The team is in seventh place in Ligue 1 and has not won a trophy since 2012.

Gasset’s contract will last until the end of the season.
