Mohamed Salah has reached a full agreement with Trabzonspor on a two-year contract, according to A Spor correspondent Yunus Emre Sel, with the Egyptian forward set to depart for Türkiye by private jet on Wednesday morning, August 5, routing through Istanbul before continuing on to Trabzon.
The reported deal would mark one of the most significant transfers in the history of the Trendyol Super Lig, landing a player who scored 257 goals across 442 appearances for Liverpool and who departed Anfield as a free agent at the end of last season. Sel also reported that Salah will wear the No. 11 shirt at Trabzonspor, the same number he carried throughout his time at Liverpool.
The move caps a rapid and dramatic turn of events in Salah's post-Liverpool transfer saga. The 34-year-old had appeared to be heading to Besiktas, the Istanbul club having reached a verbal agreement with his camp on a 1+1-year contract.
Those talks, however, reportedly stalled over financial differences, prompting Besiktas to suspend negotiations. Trabzonspor, the Black Sea club based in the city of the same name, seized the opening and moved swiftly, emerging as frontrunners in a deal widely described in Turkish media as a late-window hijack.
Well-known Turkish transfer journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu had previously reported that Trabzonspor put forward an offer of around €17 million per season on a two-year deal, which would make Salah the highest-paid player in Turkish league history if confirmed.
Reports also indicated that Salah's representatives requested a share of between 20 and 25 percent of jersey sales, a clause Trabzonspor were said to be open to accepting. Separately, Turkish outlet 61 Saat reported that Salah had asked for a portion of his salary to be paid in advance, a request the club agreed to without delay.
As recently as Monday, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan had publicly denied that any agreement was in place, telling A Spor that there was "no such agreement" and that no travel plans had been arranged.
Salah's departure from Liverpool closed a chapter that established him as one of the greatest players in the club's history. He joined from Roma in 2017 and went on to become Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League, with 191 goals, surpassing club legends including Roger Hunt and Ian Rush in the overall tally.
His trophies at Anfield included the UEFA Champions League, two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two EFL Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FA Community Shield. He also led Egypt to the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before being eliminated by Argentina.
After signing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April 2025, Salah subsequently agreed to terminate that deal early, entering the summer market as a free agent and attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, European sides, and both of Türkiye's leading Istanbul clubs before Trabzonspor's reported late surge.
For Trabzonspor, which finished third in the Super Lig last season and will compete in the Europa League this campaign, signing Salah would represent an emphatic statement of intent.
The club has been active in the transfer market throughout the summer, bringing in 11 players on permanent deals and securing a second successive loan of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana. Adding a global name of Salah's stature, on a free transfer, would dwarf all of those moves combined.
