Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman has issued a strong response following reports that supporters of Olympiacos directed insulting chants toward Türkiye during Game 3 of the Greek Basket League final series.

In a statement posted on his Instagram account, Ataman said Olympiakos supporters made chants he described as insulting toward Türkiye throughout the match.

He stated that he is proud of his Turkish identity while also underlining his respect for Greece and the Greek people, whom he described as “brothers.”

The Turkish coach also criticized Olympiakos’ roster composition, noting that the team did not feature a Greek national team player in the game.

He drew a contrast with Panathinaikos, noting that his team included four Greek national team players, whom he praised for their contributions to Greek basketball.

Addressing Panathinaikos supporters, Ataman stated that the team would continue its pursuit of the championship despite the intense atmosphere surrounding the series.

He added that they would fight “until the last shot and the final second,” expressing confidence that they would ultimately celebrate success when the series concludes.
