The Ligue 1 match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Lyon has been moved from Sunday, Oct. 25, to Monday, Oct. 26, because of demonstrations in France, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
The fixture is part of the eighth matchweek of Ligue 1, the top tier of French football. The French Professional Football League (LFP) said in a statement that the match, originally scheduled for 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 25, was shifted to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 “in line with the police headquarters’ decision banning the organization of the match.”
The Yellow Vests movement, supported by students, held nationwide demonstrations on Oct. 17 against the rising cost of living and high fuel prices. About 2,500 people were detained during the protests, while more than 1,000 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters were injured.
According to AA, thousands of businesses were damaged or looted during the violence that marked the demonstrations.
To prevent further protests, the government decided to impose partial curfews in some regions. The measure covers the cities of Paris, Lille, Lyon, Nice and Marseille, among other areas. Lille lies in northern France, Nice on the Mediterranean coast in the southeast and Marseille is a port city in the south. Lyon is in southeastern France, about 390 kilometers (240 miles) from the capital.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that all actions not organized by trade unions would be banned in the coming days.
