Real Madrid secured a dramatic 2–1 home victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday in Week 22 of the 2025/26 LaLiga season, thanks to a stoppage-time penalty.
The match, held at Santiago Bernabeu, saw the hosts clinch all three points with a goal in the 90+10th minute, keeping them just one point behind league leaders Barcelona.
Turkish international Arda Guler was named in the starting eleven and played until the 77th minute before being substituted by Rodrygo.
Guler made a notable impact in the 68th minute with a precision through-ball that sent French star Kylian Mbappe through on goal. Despite skillfully rounding the goalkeeper, Mbappe’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into play.
Tensions escalated late in the match as Vallecano finished with nine men. Midfielder Pathe Ciss was sent off in the 80th minute. In the extended stoppage time, Chavarria also received a red card, leaving the visiting side undermanned during the final moments when the decisive penalty was awarded and converted.
With this win, Real Madrid increased their points tally to 54, trailing Barcelona by a single point in the race for the LaLiga title.
