Houston Rockets player Alperen Sengun drew attention after a strong reaction toward a referee during the team’s game against the Boston Celtics.
The star center later said he apologized for the incident.
As the Houston Rockets lost 114-93 at home to the visiting Boston Celtics, the moment that defined the game was the sequence in which national star Alperen Sengun was ejected.
Sengun grew frustrated with the officials’ decisions and responded sharply.
In the fourth quarter, his comments to an official led to his ejection after he received two technical fouls. He was ejected midway through the fourth quarter for protesting a no-call and arguing with an official.
Following the widely discussed moment, Sengun addressed the situation after the Rockets’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
According to Eurohoops, Sengun said he went to the referee in the locker room after the game to apologize.
He added that he shook the referee’s hand and promised it would not happen again.
Sengun said his behavior was inappropriate.
“What I did was far from mature,” he said. “In the heat of the moment, I said things I shouldn’t have, and I felt bad about it. Sometimes you can’t control yourself, but I knew I had to do better.”
“After the game, I went to the locker room, apologized, shook his hand, and told him it would never happen again,” he added.
“It was the heat of the moment. He understood, and the matter was closed for both sides.”
