Trabzonspor announced Thursday that it has finalized the signing of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah on a two-year contract, committing to a deal worth at least €35.7 million ($41.2 million) before bonuses and image-rights payments.
The deal comes after the legendary winger arrived in Trabzon on Wednesday to a roaring reception from thousands of fans, capping days of negotiations following his departure from English powerhouse Liverpool as a free agent.
According to the stock exchange filing by the Black Sea club, Salah will earn a €10 million annual salary and receive a €7 million signing fee in each of the two seasons. Together, the fixed payments guarantee Salah €34 million over the life of the contract.
The club will also pay an agent's commission equal to 5% of Salah's gross guaranteed salary, adding €1.7 million to the overall cost, and bringing Trabzonspor's minimum contractual commitment to €35.7 million.
The agreement includes an image rights clause, allowing Salah to earn income from the commercial use of his name and likeness. The Egyptian international will also receive 20% of revenue generated from merchandise sold specifically under the "Mohamed Salah" brand through Trabzonspor's retail company.
Trabzonspor's merchandising business generated about ₺766.6 million in revenue last season. While 20% of that figure equals roughly ₺153.3 million, the payment to Salah will depend solely on sales of products bearing his name rather than the club's overall merchandise revenue.
The deal makes the Egyptian legend the second-highest-paid player in the Turkish Super Lig, behind Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who receives a guaranteed €21 million a year under his contract.
The 34-year-old joins Trabzonspor after scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists in 34 appearances during his final season at Liverpool, ending a nine-year spell in which he won two Premier League titles, the Champions League and established himself among the club's greatest players.
Trabzonspor, founded in 1967, is widely regarded as Türkiye's biggest club outside Istanbul. The Black Sea outfit has won seven league titles, most recently in the 2021-22 season, and finished third in the Super Lig last season to secure a place in the UEFA Europa League playoffs.
The club is also known for producing some of Turkish football's top talent through its youth academy. It generated €48.55 million in transfer income this summer, led by the sale of midfielder Christ Inao Oulai to Fiorentina in a deal worth up to €30 million.
