Azerbaijani side Qarabag pulled off a dramatic 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League league phase, striking in the 90+4th minute to keep their playoff hopes alive. The match, played at Tevfik Behramov Stadium, saw Qarabag come from behind twice before sealing a historic victory in stoppage time.
Qarabag got off to a flying start and went 1-0 up in the 4th minute through Camilo Duran, setting the tone for an end-to-end contest.
Frankfurt, however, hit back quickly as Türkiye international Can Uzun made it 1-1 in the 10th minute, and the two teams went in level at the break.
After a tense second half, Frankfurt moved in front in the 78th minute when Fares Chaibi converted a penalty to put the German team 2-1 ahead. Qarabag then hauled themselves back almost immediately, with Duran stepping up again in the 80th minute to level the score at 2-2 and set up a frantic finish.
That momentum carried into stoppage time, and in the 90+4th minute, Bahlul Mustafazada came up with the decisive goal, allowing Qarabag to edge out Frankfurt 3-2.
With the win, Qarabag moved up to 10 points and climbed to 19th place with a game in hand, while Frankfurt remained on 4 points in 33rd place.
The result also kept Qarabag in the mix for the playoff spots, as they continued to keep their hopes alive heading into the final round.
Qarabag are due to wrap up their league phase campaign with an away match against Liverpool, as they look to build on this result and push on in the standings.
