Turkish UCI International Road Cycling Commissaire Koray Cantez will serve as President of the Commissaires' Panel at the cycling races of the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, marking another international appointment for Turkish cycling officiating.
Cantez will head up the panel of race officials during the cycling competitions, which are scheduled to take place from Aug. 22 to 24.
In international cycling, commissaires are the officials responsible for overseeing races, applying competition rules and ensuring that events are carried out properly.
Cantez, who holds the title of UCI International Road Cycling Commissaire, became one of the first Turkish cycling officials to reach this level in 2023. In the same year, he also served as a UCI commissaire at the Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye.
His experience in national and international events has now led to his appointment at the Mediterranean Games, one of the major multi-sport events bringing together athletes from across the Mediterranean region and four continents.
The Türkiye Cycling Federation said the appointment reflects the growing visibility of Turkish cycling officials on international platforms and the country's representation in the sport beyond competition itself.
Federation President Emin Muftuoglu said Cantez's selection for such a prestigious event was "a great source of pride for Turkish cycling," adding that the appointment was the result of his years of effort, knowledge and international experience.
Muftuoglu also said the federation was pleased to see Turkish cycling officiating represented in major international organizations and expressed confidence that Cantez would represent Türkiye and Turkish cycling in the best possible way.
