Turkish female boxers advance to world championship semifinals in Liverpool

Three Turkish female boxers secured their spots in the semifinals of the World Boxing Championships on Wednesday, guaranteeing Türkiye at least three bronze medals in the women's competition.

Buse Naz Cakiroglu delivered a dominant performance in the women's 51kg quarterfinals, defeating India's Zareen Nikhat by a unanimous 5-0 decision to advance to the semifinals. The Turkish boxer controlled the bout throughout, showcasing superior technique against her Indian opponent.

Cakiroglu will face Uzbekistan's Feruza Kazakova in Saturday's semifinal round as she seeks to reach the championship final.

Isildar becomes first Turkish boxer to guarantee medal

Earlier in the day's afternoon session, Busra Isildar became the first Turkish boxer to guarantee a medal at these championships. Competing in the women's 75kg division, Isildar defeated England's Mary-Kate Smith 5-0 in their quarterfinal matchup. The Turkish fighter will meet Australia's Sue Emma Greentree in Saturday's semifinal.

Duztas advances with knockout victory in heavyweight division

In the heaviest women's division, Seyma Duztas advanced to the +80kg semifinals with a knockout victory over Saudi Arabia's Noof Alyousef. Duztas will face India's Nupur Nupur in her semifinal bout on Saturday.

The World Boxing Championships are taking place in Liverpool, with Türkiye's strong showing in the women's divisions as the country's presence in international amateur boxing grows.

All three Turkish semifinalists have now secured at least bronze medals, with opportunities to compete for gold still ahead.

The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, with the winners advancing to Sunday's championship finals.
