Turkish tennis player Kaan Isik Kosaner advanced to the third round of the French Open Juniors tournament after defeating Japan’s Ryo Tabata in Paris.
Kosaner, a 16-year-old national athlete who reached the main draw after coming through the qualifying rounds, beat the tournament’s No. 10 seed Tabata 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round.
The result moved him into the last 16 of the junior category at Roland Garros, the clay-court Grand Slam tournament held in the French capital.
The Turkish player made a strong start to the match, taking the opening set 6-0 before Tabata responded by winning the second set 6-2.
Kosaner then held on in the deciding set, closing out the match 6-4 to secure his place in the next round.
After reaching the last 16, Kosaner will next face American player Keaton Hance, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, in the third round.
