Türkiye’s National Women’s Volleyball Team defeated Spain 3-0 on Saturday in its first match of the World Championship in Thailand.
The team started strong in the opening set, racing to an 8-2 lead. Spain narrowed the gap to 16-12 midway through, but Türkiye, powered by Ebrar Karakurt, Yaprak Erkek, and Melissa Vargas, pulled away to win 25-18.
The second set began evenly, tied 5-5, before Türkiye surged ahead 16-9. Maintaining control, the team closed the set 25-20.
Spain responded in the third set, taking an early 6-3 lead with sharp serves. Türkiye rallied to tie at 8-8 and then gained momentum behind Karakurt’s serves, stretching the score to 17-11.
Spain fought back, cutting the deficit to 18-16 and later tying the set 23-23. But Türkiye held its nerve, sealing the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Türkiye will face Bulgaria in its second group match on Monday, August 25.
