Türkiye’s national men’s basketball team, 12 Giant Men, will play at the FIBA 2025 European Championship (EuroBasket 2025) against host nation Latvia on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (GMT +3).
The A Group of the tournament is co-hosted by Latvia, Poland, Finland, and Cyprus, with Türkiye’s group matches scheduled in Riga.
Türkiye’s second match is set for August 29 against the Czech Republic at 14:45, followed by Portugal on August 30 at 21:15, Estonia on September 1 at 2:45 p.m. (GMT +3), and Serbia on September 3 at 21:15.
Under head coach Ergin Ataman, the team roster is as follows:
Captain Cedi Osman expressed confidence ahead of the opening game: "We had a solid preparation period. We are ready for the Latvia match and highly motivated," he said at a press briefing.
Türkiye’s Goals and Leadership
Turkish Basketball Federation Vice President Harun Erdenay said the team has undergone thorough preparation. "Our first goal is to advance from the group stage. After that, we aim to reach the quarterfinals and go as far as we can," Erdenay said.
Head coach Ergin Ataman also emphasized Türkiye’s historic ambitions: "In European Championship history, dating back to 1935, Türkiye has won a medal only once when we hosted in 2001. This year, our objective is to compete for a medal."
Veteran center Sertac Sanli warned of Latvia’s threats: "Latvia is a very dangerous team. Everyone knows what can happen once they start firing from distance," he said.
