Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez moved into the next round of the Madrid Open after defeating home favorite Cristina Bucsa 2-1 in a tightly contested match.

Sonmez secured a key victory in Madrid, overcoming Bucsa in a three-set battle that highlighted both resilience and consistency. The match unfolded as a demanding encounter, with the Turkish player managing to edge ahead and close it out 2-1, booking her place in the next round of the clay-court tournament.

Momentum carries over from doubles success

The win in singles follows an earlier success in doubles, where Sonmez teamed up with Filipino partner Alexandra Eala. The duo advanced to the second round after defeating the pair of Hao-Ching Chan and Fanny Stollar in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

With both singles and doubles campaigns underway, Sonmez has begun to stand out as one of the notable performers representing Türkiye in Madrid.
