Turkish national tennis player Zeynep Sonmez has reached a new career milestone after rising to No. 67 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, marking the highest position of her professional career.

Breakthrough rise built on Stuttgart performance

The 23-year-old moved past her previous best ranking, which she had set in October 2025, following a strong run at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Germany.

Entering the tournament through the qualifying rounds, Sonmez worked her way into the main draw with straight-set wins over Victoria Pohle and Anna-Lena Friedsam. Her progress in Stuttgart helped push her ranking upward.

Upset victory over top-10 opponent stands out

One of the defining moments of her campaign came in the first round, where Sonmez pulled off a notable upset by defeating world No. 8 Jasmine Paolini. The win marked one of the most significant victories of her career and underlined her ability to compete against top-tier opponents.

She then faced world No. 25 Leylah Fernandez in the second round. The match went the distance, but Sonmez eventually lost in the deciding set, bringing her run in the tournament to an end.

Despite the second-round exit, the results were enough to lift Sonmez to a new career-high ranking.
