Türkiye’s national tennis player Zeynep Sonmez was eliminated from the Guangzhou Open women’s tournament in the second round after a three-set loss to Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann.
Sonmez, ranked 64th in the world, faced Teichmann, ranked 168th, in Guangzhou, a city in southern China’s Guangdong province. The Swiss player was ranked 104 places below Sonmez.
Sonmez won the first set 6-4 before losing the second 6-3 and the third 6-1. Teichmann took the match 2-1 in sets, ending Sonmez’s run in the tournament.
In the first round, Sonmez defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain, ranked 88th, 2-1 with set scores of 6-1, 4-6 and 6-2.
