Türkiye rescues 125 irregular migrants in the Aegean Sea, accusing Greek authorities of pushing them back into Turkish territorial waters

Türkiye announced on Thursday that it had rescued 125 irregular migrants in the Aegean Sea after they were pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.

Coast guard units saved 47 migrants from a rubber boat near the Bodrum district of western Mugla province, according to a statement from the Turkish Coast Guard Command.

Additionally, 78 migrants on another rubber boat were intercepted off the coast of the Cesme district in Izmir province. Fifteen irregular migrants in the same area were also rescued on Feb.11.

The migrants were handed over to local immigration authorities for deportation.

Türkiye, along with global human rights organizations, has consistently criticized Greece’s practice of illegally pushing back asylum-seekers, arguing that it violates humanitarian principles and international law while putting the lives of vulnerable migrants, including women and children, at risk.
