American detained in Türkiye over suspected murder of Russian woman
A U.S. citizen has been detained in Türkiye over suspicions of murdering a Russian woman in Moscow, as reported by Russian state media.
The U.S. State Department is requesting further information after TASS news agency identified the suspect as American, citing law enforcement sources.
On Aug. 22, the body of a 30-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds in a stairwell of an apartment building in Odintsovo, near Moscow. In response, the Russian Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal investigation.
Partner involved in killing, allegedly detained in Türkiye
Officials believe the woman’s partner, who fled to Türkiye, may be involved in the killing.
This individual was reportedly put on an international wanted list and subsequently apprehended by Turkish authorities, as confirmed in a recent update from the Russian Investigative Committee on Telegram.
While the committee has not revealed the suspect’s name, they are contemplating whether to request their extradition to Russia for further questioning.
Turkish authorities have yet to release a statement on the matter.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson highlighted that protecting the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad remains a top priority. The department is ready to provide consular assistance if an American citizen is detained in another country.
