China urges US to stop harassing, interrogating Chinese students
China and U.S. officials in Vienna agree to uphold bilateral agreements on drug control and law enforcement while addressing mutual concerns, emphasizing the importance of respecting each other’s core interests
Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reached an agreement on Sunday to enact the significant understandings established during the recent meeting between the leaders of both nations.
During their discussions in Vienna, the officials pledged to enhance bilateral collaboration in drug control and law enforcement while addressing mutual concerns.
Wang urged maintaining principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as addressing core interests and major concerns to facilitate cooperation in drug control, law enforcement, and people-to-people exchanges.
Wang also called on the U.S. to stop baseless harassment and interrogation of Chinese students, ensuring fair treatment and dignity for Chinese citizens entering the country.
Additionally, he urged Washington to take concrete measures to safeguard the security of Chinese diplomatic and consular missions and personnel in the U.S., lift visa restrictions on relevant Chinese entities and individuals, and rectify the misclassification of China as a “major drug source country.”
Both parties agreed to advance the steady progress of China-U.S. relations by implementing the significant agreements made by their leaders, sustaining dialogue and cooperation on drug control and law enforcement, and prioritizing each other’s concerns through mutual respect.
