Turkish military ‘neutralizes’ 5 PKK terorists in northern Iraq
‘We are committed and unwavering in our resolve to eliminate terrorism at its origin,’ declares the National Defense Ministry.
Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry said Sunday that five members of the PKK terrorist organization were “neutralized” in northern Iraq.
“As a result of our effective operations, five PKK terrorists situated in the Hakurk and Claw-Lock regions in northern Iraq were neutralized by the Turkish Armed Forces,” stated the ministry on X, referencing Türkiye’s Operation Claw-Lock zone in northern Iraq.
“We remain steadfast and resolute in our commitment to eliminate terrorism at its source,” the statement continued.
The term “neutralize” is employed by Turkish authorities to denote that the terrorists either surrendered, were killed or were captured.
Türkiye initiated Operation Claw-Lock in April 2022, aiming to target the hideouts of the PKK terror organization in Iraq’s northern Metina, Zap, and Avasin-Basyan regions near the Turkish border.
Throughout its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S., and the EU, has been accountable for the deaths of over 40,000 individuals, encompassing women, children and infants.
