Turkish news outlet Duvar to shut down as collective bargaining talks stall

Turkish political news outlet Duvar has decided to shut down as financial difficulties deepen, exacerbated by the failure to reach an agreement in collective bargaining negotiations and the falling readership figures due to Google’s new algerithms for online outlets, Turkish media reported on Wednesday.
Founded in August 2016, Duvar has recently experienced a significant decline in revenue, making it unable to cover its operating costs.

While no official statement has been released regarding the closure, employees were reportedly informed of the decision on March 12.
Outlet’s editor-in-chief Baris Avsar penned an article explaining the reason’s for Duvar’s closure. Avsar pointed worsening economic conditions as the main reason for the closure.
Duvar expanded its reach in 2019 by launching “Duvar English,” an English-language edition of the platform.
