An Air India flight from Frankfurt to New Delhi was diverted to Jaipur in northwestern India on Wednesday after the pilot reportedly activated a hijack alert amid an alleged bomb threat, local media reported.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9, landed safely at Jaipur airport and was taken to a designated isolation bay for security checks, according to sources from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation cited by local media.
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated and escorted to a holding area inside the airport terminal, The Hans India reported.
The DGCA has launched an investigation into the incident, according to the report.
Police sources said the emergency landing was linked to a reported bomb threat.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiv Dayal of Malviya Nagar told PTI that airport authorities informed police after receiving an alert about the bomb threat.
Authorities have not yet clarified the exact nature of the alert or what specifically prompted the diversion.
