An Israeli illegal settler waves an Israeli flag as he enters Al-Aqsa Mosque
Illegal Israeli settler raises flag in Al-Aqsa Mosque, sparking controversy. Palestinians denounce provocative act during Nakba Day as attempts to “Judaize” Jerusalem
On Tuesday, an illegal Israeli settler sparked controversy by raising the Israeli flag while intruding into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem.
Incited by extremist Israeli factions, illegal settlers breached the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex to mark Israel’s national day, with one individual entering the mosque brandishing an Israeli flag.
While Israelis observe May 15 as their national day, symbolizing the establishment of Israel, Palestinians commemorate it as “Nakba Day,” as the anniversary of Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
Furthermore, settlers placed an Israeli flag at the Al-Mugharbah Gate area, west of the sacred mosque, a gateway frequently used by illegal Israeli intruders under the protection of Israeli forces.
The act of raising the Israeli flag within the mosque is seen by Palestinians as a deliberate provocation, with accusations leveled against Israel for seeking to “Judaize” Jerusalem, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in a bid to erase its Islamic heritage.
During the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located. It annexed the entire city in 1980, a move never recognized by the international community.
