Chinese Vice President Han Zheng called for the Palestinian issue to be returned to the path toward a two-state solution, while urging countries to resolve international disputes through dialogue and respect the authority of the United Nations Security Council.
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Han said China opposed unilateral military actions that violate the U.N. Charter and the authority of the Security Council.
"We call for the Palestinian issue to be returned to the right path of a two-state solution as soon as possible," Han said.
Han called on major powers to take "special responsibilities" for maintaining international peace and security, urging them to lead by respecting rules, upholding the rule of law and "doing what is right."
He said China believes the sovereignty and security of countries in the Middle East, including the Gulf states, should be respected.
On the Palestinian issue, Han also called for improved governance in the West Bank in line with the principle that Palestinians should govern Palestine. He urged progress on post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza.

Turning to Ukraine, Han said China had played a constructive role and was working toward a political solution to the conflict.
He also called on the United States to end what he described as threats to use force against Cuba and to "immediately and completely" lift the blockade and sanctions imposed on the country.
Han also addressed technology and artificial intelligence, saying the world should adopt a human-centered approach as new technologies develop rapidly and industries undergo transformation.
He said efforts should focus on ensuring that artificial intelligence develops in a positive direction, narrowing the digital divide and promoting development that benefits everyone.
