Fuel sales to the general public have been suspended across Russia-annexed Crimea, the Moscow-backed regional governor said Sunday, as Ukraine intensified strikes on Russian military and energy infrastructure tied to the peninsula.
"Today, June 21, starting from 09:00 a.m. (0700 GMT), fuel sales at Crimean petrol stations have been suspended," governor Sergey Aksyonov stated on Telegram, adding that fuel would only be sold to state enterprises.
In a statement, Aksyonov said fuel sales for both cash and non-cash payment, as well as through coupons for individuals and legal entities, had been halted at all Crimean filling stations as of 9 a.m.
"Fuel will be issued only to state services that ensure the life support and security of the Republic of Crimea," he said.
"Further decisions related to the situation on the republic's fuel market will be announced separately. I ask everyone to remain calm and trust only official sources of information," he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed overnight strikes targeting military logistics, the oil sector and air defense systems on both sides of the Crimean (Kerch) Bridge, roughly 300 kilometers from the front line.
"Last night, our long-range sanctions targeted the occupiers' military logistics, oil industry, and air defense," Zelenskyy wrote on X.
"All of this is a just response to Russia's brutal attacks against our people." He thanked the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, Defense Intelligence of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces "for their successful work at a distance of about 300 kilometers from the frontline," he added.
Zelenskyy said the strikes hit maritime logistics used to transport oil in Russia's Krasnodar region and an oil depot in annexed Kerch, on either side of the Crimean Bridge.
He said military logistics facilities were also successfully struck, along with four radar stations belonging to S-400 air defense systems and two Pantsir systems.
"I am grateful to all our warriors for their precision and professionalism," Zelenskyy said. "Russia understands only strength, and our long-range strength is certainly working for peace. Glory to Ukraine!"
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Kerch ferry crossing overnight, damaging a ferry and an oil terminal and sparking fires at the ports of Kerch and Kavkaz, approximately 245 kilometers from the front line.
Russian authorities have suspended ferry traffic for the time being.
At least 4 people were killed and 28 wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russia-annexed peninsula of Crimea.
