French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Sunday that European countries will take part in talks on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi next week, and that France will be among them.
“The Europeans will be well represented,” Barrot told French radio station RTL, adding that France “will be in Abu Dhabi to take part in these discussions.”
Barrot did not say who would represent France at the talks. “I can’t tell you yet who will be representing France on this occasion, but France will certainly be there,” he said.
He gave no details on which other European countries or institutions plan to attend, or on what form their participation would take.
The talks stem from an announcement by US envoy Steve Witkoff, who said on Monday that Washington would bring delegations from Ukraine and Russia together in the Emirati capital on November 10 and 11.
According to Witkoff, the discussions are meant to address ending Moscow’s war against Ukraine, post-war security agreements and de-escalation. Russia launched its full-scale invasion of its neighbor in February 2022.
The agenda Witkoff outlined covers three broad areas: a settlement to end the fighting, arrangements to guarantee security once the war is over, and steps to reduce tensions. No further details on the format of the meetings or the composition of the Ukrainian and Russian delegations were provided in the statements.
