Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that Russia was preparing a new wave of strikes against Ukraine’s energy sector, bridges across the Dnipro River and other civilian infrastructure, as he renewed calls for more Patriot air defense interceptors.
“Right now, we have intelligence indicating that a new strike is being prepared against the energy sector, against our bridges across the Dnipro River, and against civilian infrastructure,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
He said Ukraine’s air force and army were preparing to defend against a possible attack but described the situation as “not easy.”
Zelenskyy called on Ukraine’s partners to accelerate deliveries of Patriot interceptors.
“Interceptors for Patriot systems are needed. Every agreement matters. Every single day in terms of supplies is extremely important. And we strongly urge our partners not to postpone deliveries,” he said.
Ukraine faces another difficult winter as Russian attacks on energy infrastructure continue despite renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.
On Thursday, Zelenskyy attended the Latin American summit in Madrid, where he urged leaders to help Ukraine obtain equipment needed to repair power infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.
His appeal came as Kyiv continues efforts to strengthen air defenses and restore energy facilities ahead of possible further strikes.
